I am a postgraduate student at Birkbeck College and an English teacher at Nower Hill High School in London. I work on the circulation of racializing anecdotes and racialized objects in the Anglophone Atlantic, and my teaching focuses on the Gothic and the global nineteenth century. I’ve presented at places as various as Port-au-Prince and Tate Britain, and have been published in Atlantic Studies.
I am an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Connecticut at Stamford. I translated Free Jazz/Black Power by Philippe Carles and Jean-Louis Comolli (Mississippi UP: 2015), and co-authored a scholarly edition of Marcus Rainsford’s An Historical Account of the Black Empire of Hayti (Duke UP: 2013; co-edited with Paul Youngquist). My articles have been published in Atlantic Studies, Studies in American Fiction, The African American Review, Criticism, Notes and Queries. My book The Black Avenger in Atlantic Culture will be coming out in May 2019 at the University of Georgia Press.
